As an HR professional, it is important to maintain a level of normalcy for employees as they grapple with these changes, especially when we are unsure as to how long they will occur for. However, there are methods you can implement to ensure that your employees home office provides the best environment for them to work productively and happily.
Working from home can be both a blessing and a curse. Perhaps some feel more comfortable and can work far more productively than ever before but for most, a home office can scream distractions. Screaming children, blaring TV’s or household chores can all be extremely distracting.
So as an HR professional, how can you help your workplace’s employees foster the best home office?
Pick a good room
Selecting the best room is extremely important in order to increase focus and stamina for work. You need to consider if the room is quiet; this probably means that it has a door and no TV if you’re likely to be distracted from it.
Lighting
A well-lit room can help provide you with the focus needed in order to work for long periods of time. Studies show that a well-lit area can assist in higher productivity levels.
Privacy
Does your workspace provide you with privacy? If your home office is not private, you may find yourself going out of your way to communicate with others around you. Ensuring that your area is private will allow you to remain focused.
Comfort
This may seem obvious to some but working within an area that is comfortable will enable you to be your best self. If your chair hurts your back or if you do not have a desk, then you might find yourself taking more breaks than you really want to. Buy furniture that provides the highest amount of comfort to you. Invest in your physical health so you do not find yourself fatigued.
Personality
Working within a bland or boring area can mean that you may go out of your way to entertain yourself; YouTube anyone? Adding objects like plants, photos, whiteboards, family photos and knick-knacks are all greats objects to add to your home office in order to make a more welcoming and thought-provoking area. An area that is welcoming to you, is an area that you will want to be in and stay in.
You may find that your homework area is never perfect but by implementing and working upon the areas listed above, you can assure that your workspace fosters a far more improved mentality so that you can get your work done efficiently and healthily.
